Women in their respective communities have been empowered in weaving baskets in and they always meet for savings once every week. These baskets are being exported to USA and Canada which has increased family standards of living, created shared responsibilities in families and reduced domestic violence.
At Rwenzori Farmers Marketing Cooperative Society LTD, we are proud to preserve and promote traditional basket weaving skills as a source of livelihood, cultural identity, and empowerment, especially for women and youth in the Rwenzori region.
The Art of Basket Weaving
Basket weaving is one of the oldest crafts in our communities—passed down from generation to generation. Our artisans use natural fibers such as banana leaves, raffia, and palm to handcraft a variety of eco-friendly, durable, and beautiful baskets.
